Office of Police Complaints Statement on the Announcement of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Body-Worn Camera Pilot Program

(Washington, DC) – Christian J. Klossner, acting executive director of the Office of Police Complaints, issued the following statement on the announcement of the Metropolitan Police Department’s body-worn camera pilot program:

The Office of Police Complaints supports the use of body-worn cameras by MPD officers, and we applaud Mayor Gray and Chief Lanier for moving forward with the program. 

Police Complaints Board Welcomes New Board Chair

(Washington, DC) – The Police Complaints Board (PCB), the governing body of the Office of Police Complaints (OPC), welcomes new board chair, Iris Maria Chavez.  Chavez has served as a member of PCB since January 2012 and will be the third person to fill this role.

Chavez is the assistant field director at The Education Trust, an organization that promotes high academic achievement for all students at all levels – pre-kindergarten through college.  In her role she oversees the organization’s field and outreach operations.

Police Complaints Board Urges Establishment of an On-Body Camera Program for MPD Officers

(Washington, DC)  – The District of Columbia’s Police Complaints Board (PCB), the governing body of the Office of Police Complaints (OPC), today submitted a report to Mayor Vincent C. Gray, the Council of the District of Columbia, and Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Chief Cathy L. Lanier recommending ways to ensure MPD develops an effective on-body camera program for the District.

District of Columbia Seeks to Hire New Executive Director to Lead the Office of Police Complaints

Police Complaints Board and Office of Police Complaints Release Fiscal Year 2013 Annual Report

Date Released: 

(Washington, DC)  – The District of Columbia’s Office of Police Complaints (OPC) and its governing body, the Police Complaints Board (PCB), today released the agency’s Fiscal Year 2013 Annual Report. 

OPC worked on 768 complaints, closing 456 of them.  The agency also closed more complaints than it received for the third straight year.
