Office of Police Complaints Welcomes 2008 Summer Interns and Law Clerks

Friday, July 25, 2008

(Washington, DC) The Office of Police Complaints (OPC) recently welcomed its 2008 class of summer interns and law clerks.

The agency’s internship program offers undergraduate students practical experience in investigating complaints and participating in community outreach activities, while law school clerks draft recommendations for police reform and conduct legal research and perform written analysis on criminal justice issues and other matters.

Students receive academic credit for their work during the school year and a salary during the summer. More than 55 college and law students have participated in the agency’s internship program since its inception in 2001.

“OPC’s internship program is an excellent way for students to learn about police accountability and oversight, all the while developing skills that will serve them well in the future,” said Philip K. Eure, OPC’s executive director.

This year’s summer interns and law clerks are:

  • Emily Snider, University of Florida Levin College of Law
  • Deidra Squire, The George Washington University Law School
  • Kevin Hofbauer, University of Maryland College Park
  • Shannon McArthur, Bowie State University
  • Tangela Russell, Howard University
