WASHINGTON, DC – The Office of Police Complaints (OPC) and its governing body, the Police Complaints Board (PCB), today released its Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) Mid-Year Report. The report includes data on complaints investigated by OPC in the first half of FY19.

From October 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019, OPC has investigated 372 complaints and opened 5 percent more investigations than in the first half of FY18.  Additionally, in 28 percent of OPC cases there was body-worn camera misuse.

OPC also published two policy recommendations in the first half of FY19 to help update and improve the Metropolitan Police Department’s policies and procedures. The most recent recommendation highlighted benefits of using data regarding legal claims and civil lawsuits to improve policing.
